Champagne Bollinger

Bollinger and Bond is one of the most enduring marketing partnerships in motion picture history. Champagne Bollinger is featured in almost every Bond movie since Live And Let Die.

The literary James Bond first encounters Bollinger in the book Diamonds Are Forever, when Tiffany Case sends a quarter-bottle to his cabin on the Queen Elizabeth.

List of Bollinger champagnes used in the movies:

Live and Let Die: James Bond (Roger Moore) orders Bollinger Champagne, slightly chilled, in his San Moniquan Hotel room. The next day, Bond and Rosie Carver share a bottle of Dom Pérignon during their picnic, just before she gets killed.
Moonraker: A bottle of champagne can be seen in a cooler with Bollinger written on it, in the Apollo Airways airplane that crashes in the pre-title sequence. In Holly Goodhead's room in Hotel Danieli in Venice, another bottle of champagne in a Bolinger cooler can be seen. Bond says "Bollinger! If it's '69 you were expecting me!". In the last sequence of the film, Jaws and his girlfriend Dolly drink Bollinger Tradition RD (possibly a 1973 vintage) in the exploding space station.
Octopussy: Octopussy pours herself a glass of Bollinger Tradition RD (vintage unknown) when she meets Bond in her room (Bond has a vodka made from Martini vermouth and Smirnoff vodka, shaken). Bond later fills up her glass once more from the same bottle. Even later, Octopussy smashes a (the same?) bottle on an intruder. Two more Bollinger bottles and some full decanters can be seen in her room on a small table. In the train in Germany, Octopussy, General Orlov and Kamal Khan drink champagne from a bottle that looks like the same Bollinger Tradition RD.
A View to a Kill: Bollinger '75. Plenty of Bollinger Champagne flows at the party at Zorin's horse castle, Château de Chantilly. Bond brings a bottle and two glasses to Stacey Sutton (Tanya Roberts).
The Living Daylights: Bollinger RD '75. Bond (Timothy Dalton) gets a bottle of Bollinger at Harrods for General Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé) who exclaims delightedly: "Champagne Bollinger RD. The best!".
Licence to Kill: Bollinger RD '79. Bond orders Bollinger RD when he arrives with Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell) in his suite in the Hotel El Presidente in Isthmus City. Three Bollinger bottles can be seen during the wedding of Felix Leiter, and a bottle of Bollinger in a cooler can be seen when Pam Bouvier drinks Bond's martini at the casino.
Goldeneye: Bollinger La Grande Année 1988 -  the bottle can be seen in the built-in cooler in Bond's Aston Martin DB5.
Tomorrow Never Dies: Bollinger La Grande Année 1989
The World Is Not Enough: Bollinger La Grande Année 1990. Bond and Elektra share a bottle of Bollinger in Elektra's palace room.
Die Another Day: La Grande Année 1995 and Bond asks Mr Chang in The Rubyeon Royale Hotel for Bollinger '61.
Casino Royale: Bollinger La Grande Année 1990
Quantum of Solace: Bollinger - Bond and Agent Fields drink Bollinger in their room at the Andean Grand Hotel (we only see the cork of a Bollinger bottle next to the Eco Park Charity Fundraiser invitation). At the Fundraiser several Bollinger bottles can be spotted as well. Bond and Fields drink from glasses that have a Bollinger logo.

The relationship began when the Broccoli-Wilson family, producers of the Bond films, sought a wine to match Bond's impeccable taste and refined personality. Not surprisingly, they chose Champagne Bollinger, long acknowledged as one of the world's finest Champagnes. A mutual friendship developed between the Broccoli-Wilson family and the Bollinger family, and Champagne Bollinger has remained a Bond favorite even as the torch has been passed from Roger Moore to Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and now Daniel Craig.

Champagne Bollinger has been the champagne of choice for James Bond in many films. To celebrate the release of Quantum of Solace, Bollinger released a limited edition champagne cooler in the shape of a bullet.

The concept is that of the bullet of a gun (in the spirit of the Walther PPK), lying on a carbon covered base. This bullet, which has an impressive size (about 65cm) contains a magnum of Bollinger 1999 dressed in black and silver. Once the magnum is released from its cradle, the inside of the bullet converts into a set of compartments in which a modern gentlemen can store his personal accessories. The bullet closes with a leather garnished key. Only 207 copies of this collector’s item, each individually numbered, will be produced. One of them will be auctioned to raise money for an international charity.

Packaged in a wooden box, the whole set weighs over 50 pounds and has a recommended retail price of €4000 (about $5400).

A small keyring and cufflinks in the shape of a bullet and the word Bollinger engraved were also available at the time.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of 007’s appearance on screen and the Bollinger / James Bond partnership, Champagne Bollinger launched a limited edition special presentation box. The box includes a bottle of Bollinger La Grande Année 2002. This is a limited box, currenly not available anymore and hard to find.

The presentation box, the design inspired by the shape of a Walther PPK silencer, opens by aligning the three figures 007 and by clicking on the gun logo button, revealing a bottle of Bollinger La Grande Année 2002, the most exceptional vintage in the last decade, according to Mathieu Kauffmann, Cellar Master at Champagne Bollinger.

The bottle, adorned in shiny black and hot stamped silver, is a collector’s item in itself, an elegant celebration of the 50th anniversary of James Bond on screen. The guilloche pattern on the label and the cap is repeated on the box, a veiled reference to the grip of the pistol.

The Bollinger 002 for 007 presentation box used to be for sale at TheWhiskyExchange for £150 (currently sold out), and in specialist shops and wine merchants for £125 - £150 ($200 - $240 or €155 - €190).

Harrods luxury food hamper

0

In the movie The Living Daylights (1987), M asks James Bond (Timothy Dalton) to pick up a hamper at Harrods, as a gift for General Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé). Bond brings the basket to Bladen's Safe House.

The hamper contains a bottle of champagne, foie-gras and caviar, which General Koskov immediately starts eating ("Caviar, that's peasant food for us, but with Champagne it's ok"). Because the brand of champagne that M suggested was "questionable" according to Bond, he took the liberty to fill the hamper with a bottle of Bollinger R.D. champagne (see image on the left of the type of bottle and label that is seen in the film, although in the film we can't see which year it exactly is).

A hamper is a primarily British term for a wicker basket, usually large, that is used for the transport of items, often food. Harrods sells ready-made food hampers and provides customers the service of compiling a custom hamper for them, which may involve company staff (in the case of The Living Daylights, Bond himself) going shopping for requested specific items on behalf of individual customers. Food hampers are a popular gift item in the UK and Ireland.

Harrods offers a large selection of hampers (in the stores as well as on the Harrods website) ranging in price from £25 ('A Christmas Classic') to £20,000 ('The Decandence'), and you can also create a custom hamper.

The basket seen in The Living Daylights is a wicker basket, similar to a picnic hamper with a lid.

Bollinger SPECTRE 007 Limited Edition

The release of the SPECTRE Limited Edition marks the continuation of a long lasting partnership between EON Productions, the producers of the Bond franchise, and the House of Bollinger.

The Champagne Bollinger partnership with Bond is, rather uniquely, based on a gentlemen’s agreement from the early 1970s. At the time, Champagne Bollinger was being run by Madame Bollinger’s nephews Claude d’Hautefeuille and Christian Bizot. They sought to continue their late aunt’s good work in building the brand of Bollinger, whilst remaining true to its heritage and tradition. When film producer Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli was seeking a Champagne House to match James Bond’s on-screen impeccable taste and panache, he chose Bollinger, but the House was still traditionally quite reserved at heart. Adamant that Bollinger was right for his suave secret agent, Cubby took his time and made friends with Christian Bizot, bonding over their shared love of wine. Since that encounter, Bollinger has featured in 13 Bond films to date and has been the exclusive Champagne partner since Moonraker in 1979. James Bond’s first encounter with Bollinger, however, was actually a literary one; Tiffany Case sends Bond a bottle to his cabin on the Queen Elizabeth in the novel of Diamonds Are Forever. The first appearance in a film was when then Bond Roger Moore ordered Bollinger from room service in Live and Let Die. From that moment on, Bollinger has been Bond’s Champagne of Choice in every big screen outing.

SPECTRE will be the 14th Bond film to feature Bollinger as James Bond's Champagne of choice, with the discerning secret agent this time deciding to drink the exclusive prestige cuvée Bollinger R.D. 2002.

In the movie The Living Daylights (1987), M asks James Bond (Timothy Dalton) to pick up a hamper at Harrods, as a gift for General Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé). Bond brings the basket to Bladen's Safe House.

About the champagne

The excellent 2011 harvest in Aÿ, produced complex, powerful and harmonious Pinot Noirs, fully expressed in this characterful wine.

Weather: The 2011 vintage was a continental, sunny year with a real winter that was very cold and dry followed by a glorious sun-filled summer and almost no rain in August and September. The harvest was incomparable in terms of quality and produced consistent, fresh and crunchy grapes.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 100% Pinot Noir from Aÿ
Disgorged: Feb 2019
Dosage: 8g/l

Tasting Note: To the eye this has a deep golden colour, demonstrating the wine's maturity. The vintage boasts a refined complexity on the nose, with hints of hazelnut, vanilla and citrus fruits. On the palate, the maturity of this Champagne shines through yet remains fresh and lively, with subtle flavours of plum and honey adding real character.
